Toolbar

This chapter will highlight the different tools available in the toolbar from top to bottom. It will also explain how the Tool Editor works.

  1. Select:

    1. The selection tool allows you to select content within pixel-based layers. It supports Lasso, Rectangle, and Ellipse options, as well as the ability to auto-close, fill, and erase selections.

  2. Anchor:

    1. The anchor tool is used for interacting with vector shapes. It allows you to select and move one or more nodes from any vector shape.

    2. The associated Tool Editor gives options for editing the selected vector shapes. Options include changing the size, stroke, fill, taper, and render type.

  3. Transform:

    1. The transform tool opens up a dedicated experience for moving the selected content around the canvas. The "free" transform mode allows for width and height to be scaled individually, the "uniform" option will scale the width and height using the same ratio, and the "skew" option will stretch the content left and right.

  4. Perspective Transform:

    1. The perspective transform tool allows each corner of the bounding area to be manipulated individually. This tool is only available to use on pixel-based layers.

  5. Pencil:

    1. This is the main tool for drawing on the canvas. By using any of the default or custom brushes, you can make unique marks on the canvas to create beautiful artwork.

  6. Eraser:

    1. Used for erasing pixel content on the canvas, and can also use any of the available brushes for a more stylized eraser experience.

  7. Vector Brush:

    1. Creates natural looking curves that are vector-based. Similar to the pencil tool, but these curves contain nodes and control points that can be edited after drawing is complete.

  8. Pen:

    1. Creates vector shapes by making a set of anchor points. By holding and dragging, you can create a curved node that uses control points to smooth the line.

  9. Eyedropper:

    1. Samples pixels from the canvas. Using the tool editor, you can specify how many pixels to sample at the touch point, as well as whether the tool should sample from the entire canvas or just the active layer.

  10. Paint Bucket:

    1. Fills an enclosed area on the canvas with the currently selected color. With the tool editor, you can set the fill threshold based on your needs.

  11. Image:

    1. Provides options for importing images to the canvas. To find these options, select the Image tool and then click the tool editor at the top of the toolbar. The available options are:

      1. Photo Library

      2. Files

      3. Pexels

  12. Shape:

    1. Creates vector shapes (such as ellipses, trapezoids, etc.) using nodes and control points.

  13. Smudge:

    1. Smudges pixels on a drawing layer using the currently selected brush. The tool editor allows gives an option for selecting the smudge strength.

  14. Text:

    1. Creates and edits a text layer. Clicking the canvas with this tool once will create a new text layer, and clicking within that layer again will allow for text editing.

  15. Gesture:

    1. Provides tools for moving the canvas around via scale, rotation, and translation.
